P. Alessandro Omizzolo è nato nel 1956 a Foza, vicino ad Asiago. Ha conseguito il dottorato in Astronomia nel 1982 all’Università di Padova sotto la direzione del professor Cesare Barbieri con una tesi sulle proprietà ottiche e a raggi X dei quasar a basso-redshift. Ha poi lavorato nel campo della variabilità ottica dei QSO e delle loro strutture spaziali dal 1982 al 1985.
Ordinato nel 1987, è sacerdote della Diocesi di Padova. Dal 1997 fa parte dello staff della Specola Vaticana, dove lavora su spettri a bassa risoluzione di quasar candidati ai raggi X per determinare la funzione di luminosità ottica dei QSO a basso redshift. È anche coinvolto in un progetto con il professor Piero Rafanelli (Università di Padova) per studiare spettroscopicamente le galassie Seyfert e le galassie isolate.
Dal 2005 è membro di un gruppo internazionale di ricerca per studiare le proprietà degli ammassi di galassie vicine; il nome del gruppo è WINGS (WIde-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey). È anche astronomo associato dell’Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) presso l’Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova.
