Like any other yogic technique, Surya yoga requires a series of precautions, which in this specific case are aimed primarily at avoiding damage to the retina caused by exposure to direct sunlight.

Several studies conducted since 1970 on a specific technique, Transcendental Meditation, have shown its effectiveness in decreasing anxiety and stress and improving health[5][6][7]. Other research and meta-analyses involving other meditation methods were later conducted.

In their comparative analysis of scientific studies on meditation, published in 2000 in the International Journal of Psychotherapy, Perez-De-Albeniz and Holmes[8] identified the following components in common with all meditative methods:
